Supporting Cricket in West Surrey through Umpiring and Scoring

Welcome from Peter Worth, Chairman

photo of Peter WorthOur Association was founded in 1965 and is open to all who are interested in cricket umpiring and scoring of any age and gender and at all levels of the game.

We hold two social meetings each winter at Guildford Cricket Club for members and friends, to which we invite topical speakers. Additionally in recent years, we have hosted a number of seminars on the Laws of the game addressed by leading international umpires. Including our considerable student body, we currently have approximately 100 members.

An important activity of us is the running of ECB Association of Cricket Officials training courses. These are led by a team of experienced instructors employing up-to-date teaching methods for both umpires and scorers.

Association business transacted

AGM in February

AGMOutgoing Chairman Mike Brunavs raised the matter of the Association's finances, which, while not dangerously low, showed a sufficient downward trend to merit the new committee's close attention when devising policy in the immediate future. There were several changes on the executive committee: Peter Worth succeeded Mike as Chairman, Stuart Todd succeeded Mike as Training Officer and Trevor Woodage stepped down from the committee. Graham Cooper was elected President of the Association and Life Membership was conferred upon retiring Scoring Instructor Robbie Burns in recognition of many years' service to Surrey cricket. The Association in general and the new incumbents in particular thanked the departing officers for their service to West Surrey ACU&S. The meeting received the officers' reports, and the financial statement was approved.
